Hankook Dynapro MT2 Review

Hankook Dynapro MT2

If you’re an off-roading enthusiast, the mud-terrain truck tire category certainly holds a special place in your heart. Nothing matches the relentless capabilities of a true MT tire on muddy, rocky, and hardpacked surfaces. However, no matter how passionate you are about off-roading, it’s normal to wish for some level of on-road traction, handling, and practicality for daily use. If that’s how you feel, we’re reviewing the perfect tire for you — the Hankook Dynapro MT2.

It’s designed to make no compromises on off-road capabilities while also being a comfortable, silent, and grippy tire on highways. Let’s get on with the review!

Dry Road Performance

Since the Dynapro MT2 is an all-season mud-terrain tire, we didn’t expect much from it on dry roads. After all, off-roading tires with extreme muddy terrain capabilities have a history of on-road mediocrity. But that’s where this tire shines — it still offers decent levels of on-road practicality despite being an off-road tire.

You get ample amounts of stability and longitudinal traction on highways. Thanks to its advanced tread compound, the tire’s braking performance on dry tarmac is on par with some budget-category highway truck tires — and that’s a huge compliment.

Wet Traction

The Hankook Dynapro MT2 doesn’t shine in wet conditions, but it doesn’t fail either. Since it isn’t an all-terrain tire, some loss of wet cornering grip and slightly longer braking distances are forgivable. However, the tire always offers sufficient levels of wet traction to be completely usable no matter how rainy the weather gets. The tire does a decent job at limiting hydroplaning through its circumferential grooves and offers a safe enough drive on wet roads as long as you drive carefully.

Snow Performance

Since the Hankook Dynapro MT2 isn’t a snow tire, you simply can’t rely on it in extreme winter conditions. The cornering grip and longitudinal traction are insufficient to meet desired levels of safety on icy roads and thick snow. However, the tire can reliably take you from point A to point B on light snow.

Off-Road Capabilities

The off-road realm displays this tire’s complete potential — and it’s the main reason why you’d buy the Hankook Dynapro MT2. We were blown away by the amount of grip this tire naturally produces in some of the toughest off-road conditions such as mud, wet rocks, dirt, gravel, and even clay! The stiff casing keeps the tire stable at any angle and protects it against chip damage.

Even though the tire is mainly designed for extremely muddy terrain, it’s a star performer in any off-road scenario. No matter how tough a track is, you could take it on with the Hankook Dynapro MT2 tires installed and you’d drive out of it with a wide smile on your face. Isn’t that what off-roading is all about?

Ride Quality

The Dynapro MT2 is a remarkable off-roading tire out there, but there are lots of those out there. What’s rare is seeing a combination of high off-road potential and impressive on-road practicality — and the MT2 delivers!

Muddy terrain tires are widely known to be noisy on the highway, but the Dynapro MT2 will surprise you. It’s definitely not quiet, but its beveled center tread blocks do a pretty good job of muffling the tread growl as much as possible.

Depending on the tire pressure, the ride quality can also vary between relatively plush to “pretty bumpy” — but you can’t expect impeccable smoothness out of a mud-terrain tire.

Conclusion

If you’re in the market for a tire that doesn’t leave anything on the table when you’re off-roading, while also retaining most of its on-road practicality, the Dynapro MT2 could be a sensible choice. Besides its off-road potential, it offers a responsive and stable drive on dry roads, ample wet traction, and respectable usability on light snow. If you don’t get wild winters where you live, give this tire a close look!
